Thomas the Train Cake

I owed a friend a favor, so I made her little boy a train cake for his second birthday. I would have made a "real" fondant face and accessories for the train, but I only had a day to make everything so candy and oreos replaced them. I actually think I liked the candy and cookies more than perfectly molded fondant after it was all said and done--especially for a 2 year old's cake. She said the kids loved it! It was fun to make, but I usually stay away from hand-sculpted cakes becuase of all the terrible crumbs (even though I can easily solve the problem with a light crumb coat). Jefferson loved it too and cried when they took it away. Now I know what to make him next year :)
