And Then There Were Three

Our little Jefferson is finally here! He arrived a little early, but you won't here me complain. He was definitely ready to come into this world and be a part of our family. His birthday is officially March 10, 2008 at 8:31am. He weighed a whopping 7 lbs and 15 oz and was 19 in long.

After a false start on Saturday, we finally got things into gear early Monday morning when my water broke. I was already 4 cm dilated from Saturday's events so things got moving pretty quickly. By the time they checked me at the hospital at 3:30 am I was already 5 cm and had really close contractions. I asked for the epideral right away, but, alas, the anesthesiologist there that night was taking care of a c-section, and I was second on his list. After laboring for three hours with little relief, he finally came in and gave it to me. I was 7+ cm at that time, and I don't know how much more I could have taken. It took a few minutes to kick in, but after that everything was a breeze and I quickly progressed to a 10! I pushed for a little over an hour (talk about a work out--my back and arms are sore from straining) and out popped our little muffin. Jason and I both just cried; he was so beautiful.

As soon as he was born, he had to be checked out because there was a little problem with meconium in his amniotic fluid. He was great and they took him down to the nursery for a little closer monitoring. Jason went with him while I got put back together. We are totally in love with him and could not ask for a sweeter baby. Here he is!

My goodness, I don't even want to know what being "put back together entails". Sounds painful. :)
I'm soooo happy that eveything went well!
